BIG News

Scott and I met on the street in Costa Mesa infront of a palm tree. Scott said the tree was a symbol of our relationship, but then the tree got sick and they cut it down 2 years ago. So much for that symbol. Our first date was at The Pasta Connection, a little family owned Italian-Argentinian restaurant in Costa Mesa. They closed today. Hmmm, looks like things aren't going our way in Orange County...
So we are going to pick up and move! I am currently looking for speech jobs in Northern CA, and Scott is eager to find work in a culinary-rich area such as Napa, Sonoma, or San Francisco. Let's face it, Orange County is NOT the culinary center of the universe. We're looking to settle in the east bay this August, and seeing what happens from there...

holy SMOKES, that is BIG news!! congrats on the decision. does this mean you're going to have babies soon?! (kind of kidding?)

the restaurant where patrick and i met closed down, too - the huki lau. BUT i can't believe the pasta connection closed; i swear that's been around for 30 years. sad.

Javiers in Laguna closed, but there is a HUGE new Javiers in Newport Coast, in the Crystal Cove Promenade. It is super trendy and the new "place to be" (although you won't find me there...not my crowd)

crystal cove is super trendy now - have you seen the crowd at Mastros? I know that Javier's moved there, but I'm still confused as to what happened to Partner's - totally closed or just new ownership? and Cabana is under renovation.

Cabana is now called Nicks, same owner, they re-did the concept of the restaurant. Nick is the son of the Claim Jumper guy, and I guess that is now his restaurant. One of our friends applied for the chef job there, don't know yet if he got it.

That sounds really exciting, Holly! A fresh start, putting down new roots, B and I have been talking about that possibility, too. I hope you find jobs and a new environment that make you really happy.
