1. Cut your grapefruit in 2
2. Sprinkle with sugar, the more sugar you sprinkle = a thicker brulee coating. That means when Scott, the professional, makes it, it has a thick crust, but when I, healthy cook, make it, the crust is thinner.
3. Now the fun part...torch! Don't be afraid of the torch, you need to keep it on for a bit until the sugar is bubbling and brown.
When you eat it, it has the classic "tap tap" sound of a creme brulee, but no fat!
Oh, and check out our heavy duty torch (yes, it really is as tall as our coffee maker). The little ones just don't have much power!

uh...any chance there's a way to do this sans torch? in the broiler, maybe? for how long?
same question - no torch. matches? (kidding, Scott...)
I think you can do it in the broiler, just watch it carefully!! Our first valentine's together I made creme brulee and we were sans torch, so i put it in the broiler and burnt it to a crisp...way to impress the chef!
What a great idea! This may actually convince me to eat grapefruit.
yep, that's what i ordered. i bet it cost $6, not .33 cents!!
hmmm.... looks yummy, but i don't like grapefruit and torches scare me!
