We awoke Saturday morning to a smashed window on our 4Runner. The window was broken, and Scott's chef knives were stolen! So we began our weekend with a call to the police. Apparently, car theft is the crime of choice in Walnut Creek, and it sounds like windows gets smashed every week in some part of town. With that said, it still doesn't make us feel any better about it, we feel pretty violated...and now Scott has to buy new knives (fingers crossed that insurance covers his knives...they are not cheap!) So Scott went off to work Saturday feeling down with no knives. That's when I decided to cheer him up with some "Sorry your window got smashed and your knives got stolen chocolate pie"

Window-Smash Chocolate Pie
(adapted from Julie Vetterli's chocolate fudge pie recipe)
2 1/2 cup sugar
7T cocoa powder (the better quality cocoa = better pie)
4 eggs
1/2 cup evaporated milk
1 T vanilla
1 stick butter, melted
1 pie shell (store bought, or homemade...uncooked or cooked)
Mix all ingredients (except pie shell) in a blender.
Bake in pie shell at 350 degrees 45-55 minutes.
Remove while center in still shaky.
Serve with whipped cream.
Enjoy when you need to chase some troubles away (or you're craving chocolate!)

have you been watching the Waitress??
That pie has gotten me thru a lot of times over the years, never ever fail to impress and comfort!!
Sorry about the car, let us know if you are needing a bake sale to earn money for the knives! <3
That was sweet of you, Holly. I immediately thought of The Waitress, too.
oh, i LOVED the waitress! watched it on the way to newzealand and craved pie that whole trip. so sorry about your break-in. i've had 3 cars broken into over the last two years. that's right. THREE DIFFERENT CARS. ugh.
Yuck about the car! I hope the insurance covers the knives. The pie looks great, though. I loved that movie Waitress and I thought your pie name was cute!
Sarah
i've never seen the waitress, but it kind of sounds like i need to.
ugh, i can't believe his knives were stolen. i mean i can, those suckers must have have cost a bucket and a half.
but your pie looks perfect.
hope it put a little smile on scott's face.
i think you forgot the part about it making 2 pies with the one recipe.....did you adapt it to only make one?
a whole stick of butter! plus 4 eggs and a pie crust...yikes! sounds decadent!
ok, so it really is supposed to make 2 pies...that doesn't make the butter and eggs sound so bad (split the chocolate filling between 2 crusts). But personally, I think the pie looks better if you add all the filling into 1 crust. I have been meaning to pick up a tart pan, I think 1/2 the filling will look nice in there.
so sorry for the break in. the pie looks delicious.
great to see you thursday. thanks for making the long trek across the bridge!
p.s. still not a gay shirt!
boooo for the stupid thief who broke your window and stole his knives. bad bad karma!!
